Sept. 24, 2006, 9:33 p.m.Like it or not, history shows Islam was spread by the sword. However, the Re-conquest of Spain was just as ugly as is recounted here, and during the same time period, the Christians of Europe commited countless acts of violence and humiliation upon the Jews in their midst.

Regardless, they are words to consider, as the author of the article has. While I admit I am no historian, I do get funny feelings when things don't seem to make sense. It is probably true that much of the "golden Age" association of Muslims and Jews in western Europe probably occurred. It is certainly true that there were many periods of peaceful co-existence between Muslims and Jews in the Middle East as well. But this author is a bit too pacifist for me, representing a bit too chummy a relationship between the religions that may not have existed. Remember "the enemy of my enemy is my friend". G.W. Bush really wants peaceful co-existence, though he doesn't express it very well. And he is not an emperor. I think this author is waxing a bit flamboyant, even if his motives are to decrease anger and increase understanding.

By the way doesn't the word Islam mean Subjugation?

Sept. 25, 2006, 3:05 a.m.Another pathetic attempt to pitch Islam as a religion founded on peace. Why? It boggles my mind that people think that there is some value to burying their head in the sand on this issue! If we pretend that Islam isn't a religion of violence will it eventually magically become a religion of peace? Are we afraid to call a spade a spade because somehow that will bring about dire consequences? Or maybe it's because everytime someone goes on global record to decry muslims and some of their actions, that terrible violence and retribution breaks out. Maybe those who wish to pull the wool over our eyes and make us believe that Islam is a peaceful religion do so to keep us from statements or activities that will upset the highly volitile and militaristic followers of Islam. Who knows. Keep silent on the issue if you must, but don't be decieved.

So within 100 years of the prophet Mohammed's death (622 AD), it was Muslim missionaries who tirelessly spread the faith from Lisbon to China (the extent of Muslim influence by the early 8th century)through preaching and teaching?
Stuff and nonsense.
History tells us that it was Arab armies which conquered and converted at the point of a sword, destroying much that stood in their way (Alexandria, Carthage, etc.)

Most of the source the Christian's quotes come from the Oriental's poison pens, today's propaganda is that Muslims want to kill all non- believers unless they convert to Islam, the survival of the western world depend on the disinformation campaign to keep its tax paying, hard working, masses in total ignorance and constant fear of death. I read some of the posts on this thread and most of them want to continue their belief and never want to change their blind belief against Islam under any circumstances.

Sept. 25, 2006, 8:21 a.m.This is really pathetic.Ok,I have lost any good thougths I once had for netscape.A few weeks back there was a story on the home page that compared allah to God.It quoted parts of the Qouran(sp??) It didn't make allah,mentioned in the Qouran sound very appealing. I wanted so badly to post a comment and the story was gone in a matter of minutes. I am SICK & TIRED of feeling like everyone has to walk on egg shells as far as Islam is concerned. I am a christian.Not just a church attender, a born again, blood washed child of the living GOD.. Christians get bashed constantly and lose more rights on a daily basis than any other religous group.I personally could care less what the pope said. We are to believe that the islamic people we see ranting and raving in the streets don't represent the islam religion as a whole, yet what good have we seen from them... Yes old testament times were violent.My God is a vengeful God, but he gave Christ as attonement for our sins.We have a choice.

I have wrote before any non-Muslim lives in an Islamic country has the same value as the Muslims their blood and property are as sacred as the Muslims, the author has explained very clearly he is not a Muslim and the best way to judge is read it once again. If you are asking me about the Muslim countries which are partly secular in nature and you can have your own investigation about each country, and there are more than 54 countries in the world and they are Muslim countries and they cannot be called as Islamic countries, these are two deferent things

Also, CHRISITANY has, for the most part, be spread by the SWORD and millions of innocents murdered in "Christ's" name. No religion can deny that it has a vicious side. One is just as violent and unforgiving as the other. Religion itself is one of the biggest problems this world has. The bible itself has innocent people being thrown off their land, killed and eliminated for no other reason than to make way for another group. Western civilization only truley progressed when the Popes were thrown from power and secular took over; as long as religion rules there will be problems, once this area progresses to the point where they do separate their religious leaders from politics will there be lasting peace. Most religions cause MORE problems than it solves-.
