Southern Baptists: Climate Change Deniers »
Posted by: RickyDawkins 1 year, 2 months agoThe Baptists, whose expertise in climatology has for too long gone unrecognized, also made a "call for more objective analysis in the data that would explain causes of the warming we're experiencing." That's rich -- implying that it's the scientists who come to their job with a bias.

"It's as if man can't sin. The Southern Baptist Conference, perhaps the most powerful organization of fundamentalist protestants in America, has decided that the evidence humankind is responsible for global warming is just too thin."
Southern Baptists approved a resolution on global warming Wednesday that questions the prevailing scientific belief that humans are largely to blame for the phenomenon and also warns that increased regulation of greenhouse gases will hurt the poor (emphasis mine).... The SBC resolution, approved near the end of the denomination's annual meeting, acknowledges a rise in global temperatures. But it rejects government-mandated limits on carbon-dioxide and other emissions as "very dangerous" because they might not make much difference and could lead to "major economic hardships" worldwide.

I very carefully read the label and did what it said and,
GOT AN EXTRA 70 MILES OUT OF MY TANK OF FUEL!!
I always always always got up to 419 miles when the low fuel light came on. It didnt come on until 490!!
4 freaking 90!! How can that be?
I drive the same roads six days a week at the same time with very little deviation. The truck has a 33 gallon tank and I buy 32 gallons every Wednesday at the same Ugas. Now I can drive ONE WHOLE EXTRA DAY on that same tank of fuel.
Our family has three cars on the road. They are are all going to get it as soon as I can get more. I dont want to be accused of spaming. SO ........
If you want to know where to get it Ill see if I can put a link in my profile.
I found this stuff while looking for a way to reduce emissions. Of course it supposed to do that too but I dont know how to have it tested.

I don't agree with Baptists on much, but I will agree with them on this one issue. There is NO concrete proof that man has anything to do with so-called global warming. If there is a single concrete scientific link between man and global warming Rick, PRODUCE IT. And you cannot do it. It's all based on computer models, and nothing more.
SHOW ME THE LINK. (lotsa luck).
Now, I take issue with Baptists being referred to as "protestants". They most surely are NOT "protestants".
They hold hands with the very thing they are SUPPOSED to be PROTESTING. If you told most Baptists what the Protestants believed, most Baptists would deny it or tell you they definately aren't Protestant.
1)Protestants did not believe in the lie of man's puny 'free will'.
Protestants believed in the soverignty of God or 'predestination' (pro'orizo in the greek)
2)Protestants did not celebrate christmas believing it to be catholic/papal paganism, which IS EXACTLY what it is.

actually many southern baptist congregations believe in predestination.
most do believe in the soverignty of God. To be honest i have yet to talk to any person who is in a church of the SBC that doesnt believe this.
The Southern Baptist Convention is an organization with a organized central body but the individual churches have nearly unlimited freedom in the beliefs. there are very few guidelines that the individual baptist church needs to be included in the convention. it should be hard to sterotype any church in the SBC but we seem to do it with realtive ease.

"But it's the part about regulations hurting the poor that really gets me. I just don't understand where that kind of thinking comes from. Which part of the Bible discusses cap-and-trade schemes, emissions caps and carbon sequestration subsidies? Every respectable analysis of the effects of climate change (see the IPCC report on impacts for starters) singles out the poor as bearing the brunt of the effects of a warming world, not attempts to mitigate climate change."

God also doesn't work in mysterious ways. He also doesn't have a plan, (he told me while I was in the shower). People need to put less emphasis on God, maybe we CAN do something about it.
In fact, there has never been a miracle or prayer actually responded to. If you have proof of ANY miracle or prayer being answered, or even something as "simple" as ESP or supernatural ability, you could claim the 1 million dollar Randi prize!

The only thing mysterious about god is that people actually believe in him as having some grand plan. We are gradually killing this planet and it is only us who can do something about it. To think that such damage is part of god's plan, and hence doesn't matter, is downright dangereous but then again the Southern Baptists are downright dangerous. I won't be allowing any Southern Baptists aboard Ark (i can't make my mind up whether to make it diesel, coal powered or use sail).

I would go with the sails. The thermals will be working much closer to the surface as temperatures rise.
Stiil, though, a good auxillary - a small Evinrude, perhaps - could be a handy item to have along, since it will run on most anything you have handy. On Ark, fermentation should not be a problem, and it will make the Baptists happy, being, as it is, a natural process invented by their very own god. Or, you could just make wine out of the monkey pee.

My idea of God's plan is to let mankind do what they want and He will take the pick of the litter. He doesn't care about earth any more than you care about that fence you built in your back yard. When you're done with the fence, you'll discard it as scrap and when judgment day comes, earth will be of no use to Him.
So if you want a place for your grandchildren to live a life on a planet as you lived on, you have better take care of it instead of expecting God to do it for you because He doesn't live here. Amen, brother
Reply-

cantfoolme1 year, 2 months ago
And do you know what?. He never has lived here. If he/she/it did exist then i don't think the plan would be revealed to either you or me. If it is a plan it is not a very good one nor is it a very caring one. If i went to all the effort of creating such a huge and wonderful complex organism as the Earth i would not allow it to be trashed by some arrogant lower form of life.

Even if you do believe in God, there's this little thing called Free Will. Without that, your choices in life would be meaningless in the greater scheme of things (if you believe in a greater scheme of things).

There are many people who don't believe that humans are responsible for the change in the earth's climate. I'm certainly skeptical. The scientists haven't proven beyond a doubt that we're responsible, and I'm glad that not everyone is a robot who follows certain scientists' beliefs without question. Let's explore some alternative views, folks (and, yes, I'm employing a bit of sarcasm for those who like to make fun of devout religious people. It's hard to translate sarcasm to text, lol).
Reply-

RickyDawkins1 year, 2 months ago
Well, you should ALREADY know by now that it's 90 percent certain that humans are responsible for the change in climate.
So, are you betting your chips on the 10% chance Brettodactyl?
"In a 21-page report for policymakers, the group of climate experts unanimously linked -- with "90 percent" certainty -- the increase of average global temperatures since the mid-20th century to the increase of manmade greenhouse gases in the atmosphere."

this particular group of climate experts has leftist ties and loses their funding for research if they dont kiss the butt of the chicken little brigade.....
Without concrete scientific proof it is just a theory and nothing more. You have to cite scientific fact, and so the link between the two is where?

4 possible outcomes
1. Actions to are taken and it turns out scientists are wrong. Money is invested in green technologies that many industries will turn profits from. money is spent in r&D to develop said technologies. Even though there are returns to be had, some money is wasted.
2. No action taken and scientists are wrong. nothing much changes and no money is "wasted" fossil fuel companies and sponsors of terrorism continue to reap the windfall financial benefits they now enjoy.
3. No action taken, scientists are right. Life as we know it ends as crop failures become the norm. Seas rise and flood NY, London, Calcutta, etc. Your basic biblical plague.
definitely not good.
4. Action taken scientists are right alternate greener technologies are developed and the people developing them become the leaders in a new economic boom providing said technologies. Catastrophic crisis is averted.

If you were a betting person which one do you take?
Remember your betting the farm on this.
The worst that can happen if we act is money is spent on R&D that might not have needed to have been spent.
The worst that could happen if we do nothing is life becomes very hard, the complete destruction of civilization as we know it, pestilence, famine, disease, etc.
These are the worst case scenarios, I know there are points in between.

Every person that is born will sooner rather than later require housing....and thus, for every person born, MORE habitat for animals and plants will have to make way for this precious human!
Now that humans are getting smarter and smarter, conquer diseases, and live healthier, the total number of humans on this earth will NOT decline , rather it will GROW.
Add to this the Southern Baptists' and other Christians'(Including Roman-catholics') obsession with sex and their blind following of (God's?) "Go forth and procreate!", and it will be very clear that, indeed, human activities are contributing to Global warming.
Perhaps, the SBC's waning ardor re: Global warming lies in the realization that Christian dogma has contributed to this IMBALANCE in NATURE...and that homosexuality is, after all, nature's way to restore that balance!

HMMM so we've got this Noisy Christian obsession with sex.
As in did you know that the current appointee for Surgeon General had these camps where he would "ungay" people?
And then there's that Haggard guy from Colorado Springs.
So I have a modest proposal.
Infiltrate the the Noisy Christians and put that Haggard boy in charge of camps that "gay" people as some kind of holy sacrament.
That oughta keep 'em from breeding...

This thread is utterly amazing.
5% God fearing people at least TRYING to live a sensible moral life.
95% degenerates who place themselves at the head of the table and deny God his rightful place, indeed deny He even exists; place evil for good and good for evil; believe computer models are any kind of authority let alone the final authority; call perverse sex normal; are too STUPID to realize that same sex couples cannot produce children therefore there MUST be something wrong with it (duh!)
By the way, if you don't believe in Jehovah God (Yahweh/Elohiym) then he has made you that way.
Some of you will cross paths with Him at the appointed time in your life and you will BELIEVE on his name (authority).
The rest of you will wake up in Hell when your life is over.
God will be glorified just as much by those souls wailing and burning in hell for eternity as he will be glorified by those sitting with him at his table. The souls he knew before the foundation of the world. His CHILDREN.

Doesn't anyone here watch Christian television or listen to Christian radio?

The armageddonist quote, "you only really live after you die," is Orwellian double-speak at its finest.
There is a REASON Neocon Christians have blocked every social and technological advancement. Remember "environmentalist is another name for Satanist?" One can find hundreds of examples of Christians trying to lock black Americans out of public schools, gays out of churches, and lately my favorite is Fundamentalist Christians actively blocking NASA scientists' vital climate information from the world.
Not very "Christian" of them, eh?
Fundamentalist Christians have one sick agenda and global destruction is their wet-dream.

Just where does the Southern baptist convention get off issuing any kind of pronouncement about global warming. I thought their area of expertise was supposed to be the bible, their god and how to live so you get into heaven. When did they start a science branch?
They should stick to the saving of souls (HAH!) and let the scientists do the thinking about global warming. Their opinion is about as well founded as a Boy Scout memo regarding high fashion or the DAR handbook on Oragami.

As is the case with many "Religion" articles here on Nutscape, this article, a thinly-disguised and snide swipe at Southern Baptists, has brought out the familiar anti-religious cleerleaders-- the "proud-to-... the supernatural-denying "experts" and the self-appointed, all-knowing and condescending spiritual DENIERS.
Two points, too lengthy for just one submittal:
First, if this article is truly humorous in its intent, then why did Mister Dawkins not post it as "humor"??????
It's not because he was afraid that it wouldn't "fly" on the "Humor" post. (Come to think about it, maybe that was his reason....)
No, it's because he couldn't miss the opportunity "have a little fun" here on Nutscape's "Religion Channel" at the expense of "Evangelicals" in general and the Southern Baptists in particular!
Come on, RD, please say it isn't so!

Second, all you Anthropogenic Glow Bull Worming believers need to understand this: We "Evangelical" believers have the same perspective of you supernatural "DENIERS" that you AGW believers have of the AGW "DENIERS"â;;
Both groups believe;
1. In the veracity of our "holy" writings
2. In the importance of accepting the world-view outlined in those writings
3. In the unique nature of the message we espouse
4. In the importance of spreading our gospel to those around us who are unaware of its relevance to their lives (particularly to the "DENIERS" around us!)
Both don't understand why those "DENIERS" just "don't get it!" Especially when the evidence is RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEIR NOSES!!!!

But here's the rub:
If the AWG believers are "wrong," then the consequences for their "DENIERS" are almost benign. If the "Evangelical believers are "wrong," likewise their "DENIERS" have little to worry about!
BUT:
If the "Evangelicals" are "right," their "DENIERS" will literally be in a HUGE "world of hurt!!!!!"
And if the Bible is right, they're there for all Eternity!!!
Are any of you supernatural "DENIERS" willing to gamble on those odds????
Think, because that's just exactly what you're doing!!!!!

There's more to the godless view than just the "jolly debunking" and the assumed lack of understanding that Vette imparts to us. We do not escape sorrow, we do not lack for joys, and we try as hard (I think even harder) as the believers to find meaning in our lives. We simply do not accept the short cut of magical thinking that allows the lazy-minded to follow the path of religious escapism.
We stand awed at the heights our people have achieved. No gods, no religion. Us.

That baggage of superstitious, religious thinking is what Dawkins calls the delusion, and what Hitchens says "poisons everything"—not the book itself, not the literary qualities of the writing, not the pain expressed in the book of Job or the love shared in the book of Solomon. None of those writers want the Bible burned or denied to readers. What we want is for people to think of it as a great hodge-podge of human expression which doesn't so much vindicate a nonsensical image of a divine being as it does the complex, earthy, sometimes soaring and sometimes hateful picture of us. But no, we instead get the inanities of chatter about the personal desires of that ludicrous god, the same kind of febrile blitherings that Vette offers as a justification for accusing atheists of not understanding the depths of the deity.
Reply-

vettenut1 year, 2 months ago
Whether either Dawkins or Hitchens will be spoken of, or their words known to humans living, say, 100 years from now, or not is an open question.
But what is certain is that in 1000 years, if humans still exist, the Sun that powers our solar system, as well as most of the stars in our galaxy WILL STILL EXIST, and will call out to the humans that Someone much larger than they CREATED all these things.
And there still will be those that DENY that!
We "Evangelicals" do not want Atheist or Agnostics, or their texts burned or denied to readers. We sincerely want them to come to a place of Relationship with the Creator, just as we have.
But we simply cannot allow them to (without challenge) claim "the corner" on all truth and true science, or accuse us "Evangelicals" of believing in "nonsensical" things, or of uttering "febrile blitherings."
Personal attacks usually reveal weaknesses in the thinking and concepts of the attackers!

Warning warning this is a possible argument to be used with Noisy Christians and does not reflect religious fanaticsm by the author.
Are we not, as the book states, appointed by God to be Stewards?
So is it not a sin against god to Pollute and destroy this Earth, the sacred gift of God?
If it is not for Science than who is to explain to good Christians that we are failing in our sacred duty to act as Stewards of this Earth?
If ever I have had communication with "God", surely it must be that feeling in the marrow of my bones and in every waking hour the knowledge of the betrayal of our duty to protect and nurture the life of this planet.
That if we allow this earth, by our own hands or initiative, to die before acts of God, are we not committing a sin most foul?
