You Swore on the Bible: What an Oath Means »
Posted by: populist 1 year agoA promise is always an important commitment. But an oath is not just an ordinary promise. An oath is a promise made in such a way as to accentuate its importance, and to make it binding, as much as is possible to do.

FTA- "In the oath of fealty, the vassal commits himself to defend the lord whenever needed --no matter what, and to the utmost of his powers.
In the American system of government, the place of the "lord" (the higher party, who is the overarching protector to those below him) is taken by the Constitution of the United States. And quite fittingly, too: for the Constitution is indeed the most vital protector of the people of these United States."
Absolutely beautiful!
Thanks for the article Pop.

If the guy swearing the oath can't even prove that he could learn the lessons found in a Dr. Seuss book, what makes you think he would possibly understand the bible, or the US Constitution, for that matter.
There is a place where stupid and evil meet, and we've all been watching it for the last few years everyday.

That's it, exactly.
We hold our representatives to their word, or we don't.
They have already made the decision not to honor the oath they took.
now the decision is ours.

When one swears fealty there is a high level of "compatibility" or agreement on basic life philosophy. What if your "Lord" over time turns from championing what was universally accepted as good & decent to defending filth and perversion? What occurs when different groups within become diametrically opposed?

"How can you be a patriot if --by violating your oath of office-- you indifferently commit a treasonous act? How can you be upright if your promises mean nothing?"
"No matter that patriotism is too often the refuge of scoundrels. Dissent, rebellion, and all-around hell-raising remain the true duty of patriots."
Barbara Ehrenreich
The "scoundrels" have found a refuge in government offices and it is time for the "patriots" to do some hell-raising, as is our duty!

"The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man."
George Bernard Shaw
Ladies and gentlemen, it is time to assert ourselves in the name of progress. The government is doing everything it can to make us a "zombie nation." We might as well be medicated or have lobotomies. Neither side wants us to think for ourselves, they just want to dictate to us. It is past time to remind them that they are in office at our discretion and not anointed royalty! We the people need to "lobby" for our rights and demand to be heard.
If you are republican or democrat, it doesn't matter, the government is NOT your friend. Go vote in the primaries for one of these underdogs: Mike Gravel, Denis Kucinich, and Ron Paul. Send a clear message that we are tired of meaningless political rhetoric!

"They have obligated themselves to defend the Constitution-- and the promise they make is complete and without any room for exceptions, without any room for allowing any other consideration to overrule it."
No exceptions, no hostages to fate, no compromise, no pragmatism, no excuses.
