Religion – On this day when Christians celebrate Jesus rising from the dead, Christians who usually do not rise to attend church could be in a pew near you.
"On this day when Christians celebrate Jesus rising from the dead, Christians who usually do not rise to attend church could be in a pew near you..."
and the point is?
I guess that the point is that there are many many people who feeling the new Aquarian Age feel their spirituality in every place. They/we don't feel the need to go to a building to feel oneness with God. So, the churches are feeling the financial pinch and trying to figure out how to get these 'Holy Day' believers back into their coffers. I guess?
They/we don't feel the need to go to a building to feel oneness with God
That's the mistake right there. The relationship with God is more than a feeling (not to sound like a song). It's a DECISION. And that decision includes going to mass with fellow believers and pray with the Lord. For where two or three people are gathered in My Name, I Am there also.
I think this quote from the article sums up the state of the Church rather nicely:
"We have to live lives of joy and integrity. The biggest problem for evangelism is Christians," said the Rev. Phil Thrailkill of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church in Georgetown. "People look at our lifestyles and see that we have just as many divorces, we have just as many drunks and we are shacking up like they are. ... We have to outlive and outlove an unbelieving world."
I think the Church is the last place where people can hear about hope but hypocrisy.
Look at all the priests who should be behind bars for molesting boys, denominations that have covered up the abuses in secrecy and where exposed, the millions of dollars shelled out to victims. They want to outlaw gays and lesbians, but practice it with impunity behind closed doors.
If this country's elections are fought on faith, then it is the most disgraceful display of hypocrisy in the world.
Nikkibabe, You can't say that! (Nudge Nudge wink wink!!)
These people are "true" believers and are washed by the blood of the lamb (similar to the pagans who used to get washed under the blood of the slayed bull) to be now sinless through the blood of Christ (even though they are told that they will continue to sin as no man or woman is without sin and they keep sinning every day and so ask for forgiveness... yaddi yadda!).... Are you confused yet?
Me too!
:-)
I'm not the most church going Christian, but, I went today for a sunrise service by a river. The music was great, the food and tea was good, and, most shocking of all, the pastor knew who I was after only meeting me once two years ago. He presented the Easter story, of course, and, kept it simple. No talk of a bronze snake on a stick held up by Moses or the blood of a spot-less lamb on doorways to keep the first born of Israel from dying.
