Today's devotional is simple, but important. It is the prayer that Jesus taught His disciples when they asked Him how they should pray. And, it is a prayer that almost all Christians hold dear.

"A few thoughts on the Lord's Prayer

It may be a great time for us to reflect ourselves....where we are, what we are and who we are now... A FEW THOUGHTS ON THE LORDS PRAYER

I cannot pray OUR, if my faith has no room for others and their need. I cannot pray WHO ART IN HEAVEN, if all of my interests and pursuits are in earthly things. I cannot pray, HALLOWED BE THY NAME, if i am not striving with God's help, to be holy. I cannot pray THY KINGDOM COME, if I am unwilling to accept God's rule in my life. I cannot pray, THY WILL BE DONE if I am unwilling or resentful of having it in my life. I cannot pray ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN, unless I am truly ready to give myself to God's service here and now. I cannot pray, GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY BREAD, without expanding honest effort for it, or if I would withhold from my neighbor the bread that I receive.

I cannot pray, FORGIVE US OUR TRESPASSES, AS WE FORGIVE THOSE WHO TRESPASS AGAINST US, if we continue to harbor a grudge against anyone. I cannot pray, LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION, if I deliberately choose to remain in a situation where I am likely to be tempted. I cannot pray, DELIVER US FROM EVIL, if I am not prepared to fight evil with my life and my prayer. I cannot pray, THINE IS THE KINGDOM, if I am unwilling to obey the King. I cannot pray, THINE IS THE POWER AND THE GLORY, if I am seeing power for myself and my own glory first. I cannot pray, FOREVER AND EVER, if I am too anxious about each day's affairs. I cannot pray, AMEN, unless I honestly say, "Cost what it may, this is my prayer!""

I highly recommend these supplemental bits. I particularly like the first Youtube video I linked to-

The Lord's Prayer in multiple languages:

"And lead us not into temptation..." clarification:

I like Gregory's explanation of "And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil," broken down to simple terms: "The first petition requests for God to not put the disciples 'into "hot water"'...The second petition requests for God to deliver the disciples from situations in which they already find themselves in 'hot water'."

1Corinthians 10:13 also helps us with that need. -Rev. S

        Brett: Thanx!

Beautiful video, reflecting on the Luke 11 passage. Most are familiar with the Matthew 6 passage, so this is a refreshing view.

Note that Jesus said, "After this manner therefore pray ye: "Our Father..." Matthew 6:9. This was not meant to be a repetitious prayer, that would be said without thinking of its significance.

It was given as a model prayer of what we should mean from the heart. So, Zaph's comments are appropriate to consider in praying.

Jesus had added, "For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: but if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses." He was looking to remove hypocrisy in prayer & for us to realize the God is not fooled by fake piety.

When one thinks through this model prayer in praying, it refreshes the soul. -Rev. S

I wanted to thank you, Brett for having sent to me this wonderful video! It seems so appropriate for me. This Sunday is a particular Sunday: 7 years ago somebody whom I loved, died...

Lord teach us to pray, and forgive us our sins that we also forgive every one that is indebted to us....

I know you must be feeling a sense of sorrow on an anniversary such as this, and I'm glad for whatever comfort you were able to get from watching the video. Every week, it seems like the devotionals have a particular relevance to someone, and that reassures me that God is guiding me and blessing these stories and the Propeller community.

I really can't believe some folks would give a neg vote or even sink an article such as this...that's sad actually.

I can believe it. People who consistently act like pricks have trouble praying, simply because they do not understand either prayer's power or its purpose.

I did notice that the first to sink this submission was none other than Propeller employee Neophile, who also serves as the anchor man of the "Gang of Four" in their attempts to tell everyone else here how to vote, how to post, and how to live. All in all, he demonstrates why he is so little regarded here.

Yeah, I've gotten used to it, unfortunately. There are some who persistently sink the devotionals from week to week regardless of the topic. Hopefully, the Lord will soften their hearts someday and they won't continue to hold whatever grudge they seem to have.

Brett, sorry to have missed, I've been out-and-about for a while. Great devotional!

I second Bronx Bomber's comments. And I say a loud "huzzah!" to 1-2-Oscar's comments.
