Sunday Devotional - One Self »

Have you ever found yourself acting in a different manner depending on your circumstances and those who surround you. It can be difficult to balance who we are in one place, such as work or school, with who we are at home or church. The question is: why should we even have to balance those things?

Heavenly Father,
I come to you once again to continue the tradition of opening our Sunday Devotionals with a prayer. The more open I become to Your Word, and to who You are, the more I am able to feel Your guidance and influence throughout my life. Thank you for that.
I pray that we at Propeller will have the courage to model ourselves according to Christ's example regardless of the situation we may be in. Let us be shining examples of Christianity in order that others will realize that our faith is one of hope and love, not condemnation. If You wanted to condemn us, You would not have sent Your Son to die for us.
So, Lord, please just guide everyone here to conduct themselves in a way that is worthy of Your name.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.

Nice Brett.
This is one of my favorite websites. I find it a very good resource.
Plus, I really liek your selections and your thoughts.
Philippians 2:3
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.
I liek this one so much. It really speaks to a hope I have for a better America ... where selfish greed for materialistic gain is recognized as the 'dead end' that it is and is pushed aside and trumped by a desire to consider the life station of others.

Philippians 2:4
Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.
I consider this one an essential foundation to be a Christian. I sincerely do not understand how one can be a Christian without living this word ... and working to bring its essence to Life!
As in ... recognizing the great suffering of the 50 million poeple without health inshurance. Just today, there was a story in the newspaper about a woman who lost her home because she incurred hunderts of thousands of dollors in debt due to an untimely sickness.
The essence of Christianity is that we seek to remedy this sufferin.

"Nice, except there is no evidence for a heaven, or a heavenly father."
No evidence for you, perhaps. For others there is plenty of evidence. If you want religion to stay out of science, perhaps you could follow the same advice you want to hand out and keep science out of religion. They come from very different places.
I'm so sorry you're such a sad, angry, little person. We wish you all the best in recovering from whatever hurts the world has brought you.

Excellent! I will pass this onto my grown children and friends!
I had a friend that once who said, "People need, eight hours of sleep, eight hours of work, eight hours of play and faith renewed".
"Patience" was the message today in my church! For, as God is patient with us, so must we be patient with others and ourselves!
Thanks Brett for the posting and your prayer!

Appreciate the contribution Brett as always. Considering comments about a portion of the population lacking health insurance my thoughts turned to the commands of Jesus to His disciples. He said, "command and teach all I have commanded and taught you." What did He command them? "Heal the sick, raise the dead, cast out demons, preach the Kingdom of God." No command to provide government health care. He did say to provide "Heavenly Health Care." He said we are to personally give to the poor and needy and not expect a government handout to do it for us.
The personal touch opens people to the Gospel. Healing their bodies in the Name of Jesus fulfills part of the commands of the Gospel to the Church. EVERYTHING else is less than what Christ taught. If we practice His Gospel people come into contact with Him Who will meet their needs in our absence for life!! Let us speak the Gospel of Jesus Christ, which will truly answer the needs of men.

No command to attack homosexuals, either. No commands regarding abortion.
We are to take Christ as example and his example was that of reaching out to the needy, to the poor, to the marginalized of society.
As for government, the majority of the earliest Christian communities lived as *communities*. Socialist, if you want to attach a label. Where everyone sold their belongings and put their material goods and wealth towards the betterment, support and feeding of everyone.
Interesting how we don't hear about that as much as we do about what specifics weren't in the Bible.
He never said we were " not [to] expect a government handout to do it for us." You are a bizzare little man.

Jesus said He came to fulfill the Law and not to do away with it. In the Law those who practice sex within their gender are to be judged and condemned. Although Jesus did not address the practice directly He did address "unlawful marriage." And since He did not alter the Law with regard to the abomination of sex with another of one's gender but up held the Law He by all reason condemned it.
The Law also speaks to abortion and that in the form of a person causing a miscarriage by violence. Thus Jesus did not need address the subject if He upheld the Law as from God and not to be done away with. "Heaven and earth shall pass away but the Word of the Lord shall stand forever."
As for "commnities" of Christians being socialist is a false deduction. "Communal living" is not necessarily Socialism. The only Biblical record of that was of Jews in Jerusalem and that not among Gentiles who became Christians.

Jesus also said, "You will ALWAYS have the poor among you." Some can never be helped enough or long enough. They become poor by their poor choices and failure to learn from their mistakes as well as refusing to deny pleasure for a season to gain a financial advantage or investment potential. Jesus did not advocage the government helping them out. He did however advocage giving from one's own purse to help the poor.

I hear ya Rednecky!
For you and many Christian Conservatives, there is a real disconnect between the essential message in Brets references to Philipians.
I can only assume that this is because many Christian Conservatives have merged their intolerant political philosohys with Old Testament retribution religion.
Well, it's actually self evident. This has even been encapsualted by the name chosen by these folk.
Christian ... Conservative.
Christian = Old Testament ... Conservative = Neo-Conservative militarists.

You misjudge me thinking I am locked into the Old Testament to the exclusion of and missing the teaching of the New Testament. God is "intolerant" with regard to sin which He defines in the Law. Jesus did not change that and He will judge all men by it one day. As for "retribution" there are natural consequences which cannot be avoided if one sins against God's law. Example: Paul said that those who practice sexual sin and sex with one's gender suffer natural consequences as well as judgement from God. The records of the USA CDC demonstrate to any thinking person that homosexual sexual practices are destructive to the body. Gays die young and while alive are walking disease factories. Most in their lifetime have more than 100 sexual partners, with some as high as 800. Con't

Thanks Brett
Our pastor is going through the book of James. That book seems to tie in with what this is about. We can't force ourselves to conform but trusting in Jesus will transform us. We have to keep our eyes on him.
