Conservative legal advocates are recruiting pastors nationwide to defy an IRS ban on preaching about politicians, in a challenge they hope will abolish the restriction. If the action triggers an IRS investigation, the legal group will sue to overturn the federal rules, which were enacted in 1954.

    Nonprofit groups, whether they are churches or other organizations are entities that are supposed to be non-political in nature. As such, they should not be in the business of endorsing candidates. The government is not telling them that they cannot speak out. Rather, if they do, they will become taxable entities. Pay the piper if you want to talk. I fail to see the problem with the government here.

      That's right David. These churches are more than welcome to speak their minds about who they should vote for any time. They should just know that like any free speech, it comes with a cost. That cost is tax status. I have to say that it is time to end that little chestnut. Make the churches pay. It is high time they start footing some of the bills that they have created.
