Let's see how long it takes a McCain supporter to try to deflect this or try to justify how it is less 'offensive' than what Rev. Wright 'said' ... or that McCain just asked for Hagee's support, he didn't "sit in his church pews" ....

This is far worse than what wright said. McCain said this guy was a great American leader (or something to that effect). More hatred, racism and intolerance coming from the Pulpit. Shocking? Hardly. Typical? Definitely. And people wonder why I think the Church is evil. We'll see if McCain gets rid of this slime. But probably not.

This reminds me how Gulianni said that a pedophile child molester pastor was a great man.

Here's another goody. Anyone know Ron Parsley?? McCain called this guy his spiritual guide. Watch the video.

This is a great report. I've always thought that Brian Ross should have been sent after Osama bin Laden. He would have uncovered his hiding place a long time ago.

great link

''McCain called this guy his spiritual guide.''

I think he said 'spiritual guide' in general in that link

Regardless, to hear McCain repeating 'winning hearts and minds' and then aligning himself with Parsley, who seems to be calling for a holy war against Islam, is very odd ['Islam is the anti-christ' 'the extremists are not extremists' implying Islamics who use and condone violence are more mainstream, etc.]

McCain may be interested in winning hearts and minds, but that Parsley guy doesn't seem to be, which is pretty odd considering he's a preacher and that's supposed to be his freakin job.

compelling video

In your heart, you know he's nuts. McCain, too!

But nothing from Bush, McCain, Hagee, or their Neocon ilk would EVER surprise me.

Great link. McCain calls Parsley " a moral compass and a spiritual leader". I agree with him in a sense that Parsley would be a moral compass and a spiritual leader at a time when some folks went to church on Sunday morning and lynched a black man in public on Sunday afternoon, but for now? what kind of people, besides McCain would consider Parsley a spiritual leader and a moral compass? Time after time McCain shows his poor judgment in who to shake hands with and whom to befriend, his decisions are foggy to say the least. These foggy decisions leading to flip-flops may earn McCain a gold medal in flip-flop Olympics but would it make him a LEADER America needs after being brutalized by Bush for 8 years?

I don't see any leadership in McCain's camp. Does America need another 4 or 8 years of a "bad version" of Bush? Does America need a rerun of a bad Movie?

I will say it. No prob. It IS a B I G difference! While these comments seem to be authentic (and horrible and I would denounce them 100 percent) there is ZERO EVIDENCE that McCain EVER knew about them.

On the other hand B H O CLEARLY knew all the things his PERSONAL PASTOR was saying over a TWENTY YEAR PERIOD.

THIS IS A GREAT SWERVE, but anyone with any brain understands the diffenence.

I expect nothing less than the usual INTELLECTUAL DISHONESTY from ANOTHER one of Libscapes left wing extremist, partisan Navs though.

Still waiting (after two years) for a post from a conservative nav here. Kinda sad really how biased this site has become.

Truth still hurts I see. It's only bias if you strongly disagree with it. Of course I'm also sure that you believe that FOX News is "fair and balance" reporting while MSNBC is bias. Get a life Dave.

First of all McCain knew of his intolerance on many issues and still asked for his endorsement meaning he must agree with the comments. As far as Obama this is not his personal pastor but rather the pastor of a church Obama and hundreds of others belong to. Congregants do not agree with all things their pastors say in any church, but when you ask someone to support you then you are saying you believe in what they stand for.

I agree, IAN. What neocons like NOSPINDAVE also ignore is the absurdity of accusing Obama to be racist against whites despite the fact that:

1) Obama is half-white himself

2) Obama was raised by his white mother and grandmother after his black father left his family

3) Obama attended predominantly-white Columbia and Harvard Universities and taught at predominantly-white University of Illinois

4) most of Obama's campaign advisors are white

In fact, the only reason Barack Obama and Jeremiah Wright know each other is because both were working to serve the poor and marginalized minorities of Chicago - Obama through his legal practice and Wright through his ministry. Their paths crossed as they were both serving the same demographic.

While Obama doesn't agree with everything Wright has said, Obama DOES respect Jeremiah Wright's ACTIONS, particularly Wright's service to his country in the military and his service to the poor in his ministry.

Read Obama's books. Then talk about his beliefs. Also McCain didn't sit in church listening to Hagee for 20 years.

It doesn't take much to see that Wright and Obama know each other because they collaborated on community projects together, but have otherwise very different philosophies and temperaments. This is the Jeremiah Wright that Barack Obama knows. I dare say Obama's perspective of Jeremiah Wright is far deeper than what can be captured from a handful of soundbytes, which is about as much as NOSPINDAVE knows about Jeremiah Wright.

Meanwhile, John McCain and John Hagee NEVER collaborated on community projects. ALL McCain knew about Hagee is what he has read about in the paper, which includes Hagee's rants against Catholics and Jews. In spite of this, McCain ACTIVELY SOUGHT Hagee's endorsement, demonstrating McCain will do or say ANYTHING to get elected - even embrace those whom he once called "Agents of Intolerance."

ybdogsct, good post.Obama has not asked for Wrights endorsement, but on the other hand McCain actively sought Hagee's.

Obama did put wright on his campaign. He also went and prayed with wright and asked for his guidance before running. Is hat not worse than just asking for an endorsement?

avatar
Reply

Nope. Jeremiah Wright and Barack Obama are friends through their collaborative projects to serve Chicago's poor and minority population. Obama befriended Wright and prayed with Wright because they shared the common goal of serving the underserved -- NOT because Obama adopted all of Wright's ideas.

Hagee and McCain, however, did NOT have a collaborative project. In fact, all McCain knew about Hagee was what he had read in the papers which included Hagee's anti-semitic and anti-Catholic ravings. Knowing this, McCain still actively sought Hagee's endorsement and even defended Hagee when challenged by the press.

So while Obama agrees with Wright's honorable ACTIONS (particularly Wright's service in the military and in his ministry) and condemns Wright's dishonorable WORDS, McCain has no knowledge of Hagee's ACTIONS and actively defended Hagee's offensive WORDS.

Profound difference.

"First of all McCain knew of his intolerance on many issues and still asked for his endorsement meaning he must agree with the comments"

Thats just a plain old fallacy right there...no need to really argue against it.

"As far as Obama this is not his personal pastor but rather the pastor of a church Obama and hundreds of others belong to"

Rev. Wright was like family to Obama. He was married by Wright. He wrote about Wright. He declared that Wright was like a mentor and an Uncle to him. That is FAR more than just "the pastor of a church Obama and hundreds of others belong to"

As for Hagee, the mans a monster. I think McCain was wrong for seeking his endorsement, but I think he was really just seeking the vote of the loonies who follow the man. I mean if you say that McCain must believe everything Hagee does, then the same can be said about Obama and Wright. But back to McCain, I think he should try to get rid of Hagee's endorsement.

There's the problem with this conversation. You see, WHAT the pastor was saying was correct. HOW he was saying it was his error. You don't seem to think that Obama had the common sense to get by the 'how', & focus on the 'what.' However, his life's conduct clearly shows that he did that very well.

avatar
Reply

"You see, WHAT the pastor was saying was correct."

....ummm no, no it wasn't. Unless you believe the government created AIDs as a means of genocide against people of color.

"In the 21st century, white America got a wake-up call after 9/11/01. White America and the western world came to realize that people of color had not gone away, faded into the woodwork or just 'disappeared' as the Great White West kept on its merry way of ignoring black concerns."

"Racism is how this country was founded and how this country is still run!â;¦We [in the U.S.] believe in white supremacy and black inferiority and believe it more than we believe in God."

Ya the man really tells the truth now doesn't he...

avatar
Reply

ummmmm, yes it was. And I'm speaking of the number that white society has done on black Americans because of prejudice. As for AIDS, given the other slimy things our government has done (like sterilizing children deemed 'retarded' or 'slow'), and the experiments done on black Americans over Syphilis without their knowledge, NOTHING would surprise me.

What's that saying? Oh yeah "burn me once, shame on you. Burn me twice, shame on me." Not at all hard to see why Wright would suspect 'the man.'

avatar
Reply

Ya the government made AIDs to kill black people even though when it first showed up it was thought to be a GAY only disease. If the government wanted to kill blacks, AIDs would be the worst way to do it. Its stupid to believe AIDs was made for genocide, as it effects the ENTIRE human race.

And yes, the past has been tragic for black in America. Slavery, segregation and racism has held them down for over 200 years, but the comments Wright makes goes beyond that. He believes that TODAY the government is going out of its way to hold down and repress blacks, which I personally believe is completely false.

wright is from a dif era

things r changing and getting better but if u had lived thru what he had ur outlook would be different

look at what wright said in his damn america speech

the govt supplies the drugs(rememebr ollie north under reagan bringing in cocaine)

the govt builds better prisons than schools

the 3 strike law (which isnt just aimed against blacks but all low income americans)

his tone was hurtful but he didnt lie

hagee on the other hand is very offense claiming the Lord sent the nazis after the jews

Trust me I agree that Hagee's comments are worse. And those things you pointed out have truth to them. But he has said many other things that are both racist and untruthful.

avatar
Reply

I didn't say Wright was correct in his assertion about AIDS. My point was that as a black man who lived prejudice and saw what it did to black people insidiously every day, he has no trust left. Whose fault is that? The man is clearly affected by his life experiences, but he at least deserves credit for reaching out to others who were affected. Obama clearly admired that about him, and so do I.

On the one hand you'll admit the tragedy of the treatment of black people, but I find it ironic that you won't allow the anger that might come over that treatment. I have to wonder how you would react, were it you it was happening to.

Another irony, is that HIV was allowed to get out of hand when our government ignored it because after all, it was only happening to 'gays," they thought. Thousands dead because of prejudice. Be it black people, or gay people, or any other minority that powerful people target, there isn't a whole lot to trust if you're one of those minorities.

Theres a difference between being angry because of past atrocities and trying to spread lies.

DAVE:

"there is ZERO EVIDENCE that McCain EVER knew about them."

Your justification is weak.

If McCain didn't know what Hagee had said, then why would McCain say he didn't agree with everything Hagee had said? How can you deny what you don't know?

http://www.cjr.org/campaign_desk/the_mccainhage...

"McCain assured reporters that, just because Hagee was endorsing him, it didn't mean he agreed with everything Hagee said."

Even AFTER McCain was informed of Hagee's hateful rants by a reporter, McCain insisted he was "proud of Hagee's support."

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jane-hamsher/mcca...

"Mr. McCain said he was 'very honored' by Mr. Hagee's endorsement. Asked about Mr. Hagee's writings on Armageddon and about Mr. Hagee's belief that the anti-Christ will be the head of the EU, Mr. McCain responded that 'all I can tell you is that I am very proud to have Pastor John Hagee's support.'"

McCain even went out of his way to DEFEND Hagee's comments after he was informed of them by a reporter.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/02/29/john-h...

HAGEE: "It's true that [John] McCain's campaign sought my endorsement."

John McCain defended Pastor Hagee's comments today, saying he believe Hagee's claims that his statements were taken out of context.

MCCAIN: "I will say that Hagee said that his words were taken out of context, he defends his position.."

http://thinkprogress.org/2008/03/11/mccain-hage...

1. We're not at war. There is nothing to 'surrender' to.

2. Anyone who looks past bigoted remarks is not to be trusted. Are you paying attention there in Florida, you stupid "log cabin republicans?'

Oh. McCain just said what Hagee said about hitler was bad. He'll pander to the Jewish vote, but to hell with homosexual Americans.

avatar
Reply

In breaking news, it looks like under increasing pressure, McCain has finally decided to flip flop and reject Hagee's endorsement.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/05/22/mccain.h...

"McCain told CNN's Brian Todd that he rejected the endorsement after Todd brought to his attention Hagee's comments that Adolf Hitler had been fulfilling God's will by hastening the desire of Jews to return to Israel in accordance with biblical prophecy.

Shortly after McCain's announcement Thursday afternoon, Hagee withdrew his endorsement, citing critics who had been 'grossly misrepresenting' his positions. 'I hope that the Sen. McCain will accept this withdrawal so that he may focus on the issues that are most important to America and the world,' Hagee said."

When the going gets rough, McCain flip flops. Man of integrity, or man of flip floppery?

Now, we can add this to the embarrassingly long and growing list of McCain flip flops.

LOL.

Ya know since he believes in those things so much he MUST have tried to push it in legislation. Oh yeah he didn't. Dang reality always tends ot blow holes in you guys.

however when you look at what the REPUBLICANS do they seem intent on pushing the hate mongers like Hagee and Robertson onto all Americans i.e. funding for religious madrasas in the US, hiring bible students into the DOJ. Tsk Tsk reality has to really be problem with your spin Dave.

NoSpinDave --

Have YOU sat in the Pews were Wright preached for the last 20 years, EVERY SUNDAY?

If not, then you have NO idea WHAT Wright said in his sermons over the past 20 years. None at all.

The ONLY sermon, from which only SOUNDBITES have been played, is 7 years old and the soundbites are definitely taken out of context.

There is NO documentation to support the "blanket generalization that Wright and/or his church have preached any "hate" or "anti-patriotic" anything for 20 years.

But you have accepted that face-value spin, which is exactly what FOX New and the neocons WANT you to do.

Sorry, my friend. I play by the rules of the universe, not the warped rules of your partisan hate campaign.

There is also ZERO EVIDENCE Obama knew about his pastor's more outrageous statements. What is clear is McCain sought out the endorsements of Hagee, Parsley, Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell. We know what Hagee and Parsley have said. Falwell and Robertson had both claimed that 911 was God's punishment of America. No better or worse than Wright. Yet they get a free pass?

It calls into question McCain's judgment. His ability to run things. No vetting?

I doubt this story will amount to much of a blip in the Mainstream Media.

Havin Crazy Televangelists Endorse Republicans fits nicely with the Stereotypes Media has created surroundin the two parties.

Of course, this stereotype was developed by the REpublican Media Machine ... (cause far be it from Media to do any investigatin on their own).

And if theres ONE BRAND the REpublican Media Machine has succeeded in creatin ... its the RELIGIOUS RIGHT. (Which is, of course, another name for Christian Conservatives.)

Now this WOULD be news if Hagee endorsed Obama ... cause that would be goin AGAINST type, AGAINST stereotype.

But if THAT happened, it would SERIOUSLY harken the 'End Times'. ... ... Cause ... typically ... those who embrace intolerance, bigotry, narrow-mindedness, exclusion, war, and a black/white view of world events ... that sort dont normally endorse poeple of Expansive Vision.
