Let's see how long it takes a McCain supporter to try to deflect this or try to justify how it is less 'offensive' than what Rev. Wright 'said' ... or that McCain just asked for Hagee's support, he didn't "sit in his church pews" ....
This is far worse than what wright said. McCain said this guy was a great American leader (or something to that effect). More hatred, racism and intolerance coming from the Pulpit. Shocking? Hardly. Typical? Definitely. And people wonder why I think the Church is evil. We'll see if McCain gets rid of this slime. But probably not.

Regardless, to hear McCain repeating 'winning hearts and minds' and then aligning himself with Parsley, who seems to be calling for a holy war against Islam, is very odd ['Islam is the anti-christ' 'the extremists are not extremists' implying Islamics who use and condone violence are more mainstream, etc.]
McCain may be interested in winning hearts and minds, but that Parsley guy doesn't seem to be, which is pretty odd considering he's a preacher and that's supposed to be his freakin job.

Great link. McCain calls Parsley " a moral compass and a spiritual leader". I agree with him in a sense that Parsley would be a moral compass and a spiritual leader at a time when some folks went to church on Sunday morning and lynched a black man in public on Sunday afternoon, but for now? what kind of people, besides McCain would consider Parsley a spiritual leader and a moral compass? Time after time McCain shows his poor judgment in who to shake hands with and whom to befriend, his decisions are foggy to say the least. These foggy decisions leading to flip-flops may earn McCain a gold medal in flip-flop Olympics but would it make him a LEADER America needs after being brutalized by Bush for 8 years?
I don't see any leadership in McCain's camp. Does America need another 4 or 8 years of a "bad version" of Bush? Does America need a rerun of a bad Movie?
I will say it. No prob. It IS a B I G difference! While these comments seem to be authentic (and horrible and I would denounce them 100 percent) there is ZERO EVIDENCE that McCain EVER knew about them.

First of all McCain knew of his intolerance on many issues and still asked for his endorsement meaning he must agree with the comments. As far as Obama this is not his personal pastor but rather the pastor of a church Obama and hundreds of others belong to. Congregants do not agree with all things their pastors say in any church, but when you ask someone to support you then you are saying you believe in what they stand for.
I agree, IAN. What neocons like NOSPINDAVE also ignore is the absurdity of accusing Obama to be racist against whites despite the fact that:
1) Obama is half-white himself
2) Obama was raised by his white mother and grandmother after his black father left his family
3) Obama attended predominantly-white Columbia and Harvard Universities and taught at predominantly-white University of Illinois
4) most of Obama's campaign advisors are white
In fact, the only reason Barack Obama and Jeremiah Wright know each other is because both were working to serve the poor and marginalized minorities of Chicago - Obama through his legal practice and Wright through his ministry. Their paths crossed as they were both serving the same demographic.
While Obama doesn't agree with everything Wright has said, Obama DOES respect Jeremiah Wright's ACTIONS, particularly Wright's service to his country in the military and his service to the poor in his ministry.
Read Obama's books. Then talk about his beliefs. Also McCain didn't sit in church listening to Hagee for 20 years.

It doesn't take much to see that Wright and Obama know each other because they collaborated on community projects together, but have otherwise very different philosophies and temperaments. This is the Jeremiah Wright that Barack Obama knows. I dare say Obama's perspective of Jeremiah Wright is far deeper than what can be captured from a handful of soundbytes, which is about as much as NOSPINDAVE knows about Jeremiah Wright.
Meanwhile, John McCain and John Hagee NEVER collaborated on community projects. ALL McCain knew about Hagee is what he has read about in the paper, which includes Hagee's rants against Catholics and Jews. In spite of this, McCain ACTIVELY SOUGHT Hagee's endorsement, demonstrating McCain will do or say ANYTHING to get elected - even embrace those whom he once called "Agents of Intolerance."

Obama did put wright on his campaign. He also went and prayed with wright and asked for his guidance before running. Is hat not worse than just asking for an endorsement?
Nope. Jeremiah Wright and Barack Obama are friends through their collaborative projects to serve Chicago's poor and minority population. Obama befriended Wright and prayed with Wright because they shared the common goal of serving the underserved -- NOT because Obama adopted all of Wright's ideas.
Hagee and McCain, however, did NOT have a collaborative project. In fact, all McCain knew about Hagee was what he had read in the papers which included Hagee's anti-semitic and anti-Catholic ravings. Knowing this, McCain still actively sought Hagee's endorsement and even defended Hagee when challenged by the press.
So while Obama agrees with Wright's honorable ACTIONS (particularly Wright's service in the military and in his ministry) and condemns Wright's dishonorable WORDS, McCain has no knowledge of Hagee's ACTIONS and actively defended Hagee's offensive WORDS.

As for Hagee, the mans a monster. I think McCain was wrong for seeking his endorsement, but I think he was really just seeking the vote of the loonies who follow the man. I mean if you say that McCain must believe everything Hagee does, then the same can be said about Obama and Wright. But back to McCain, I think he should try to get rid of Hagee's endorsement.

And yes, the past has been tragic for black in America. Slavery, segregation and racism has held them down for over 200 years, but the comments Wright makes goes beyond that. He believes that TODAY the government is going out of its way to hold down and repress blacks, which I personally believe is completely false.

Trust me I agree that Hagee's comments are worse. And those things you pointed out have truth to them. But he has said many other things that are both racist and untruthful.
I didn't say Wright was correct in his assertion about AIDS. My point was that as a black man who lived prejudice and saw what it did to black people insidiously every day, he has no trust left. Whose fault is that? The man is clearly affected by his life experiences, but he at least deserves credit for reaching out to others who were affected. Obama clearly admired that about him, and so do I.
On the one hand you'll admit the tragedy of the treatment of black people, but I find it ironic that you won't allow the anger that might come over that treatment. I have to wonder how you would react, were it you it was happening to.
Another irony, is that HIV was allowed to get out of hand when our government ignored it because after all, it was only happening to 'gays," they thought. Thousands dead because of prejudice. Be it black people, or gay people, or any other minority that powerful people target, there isn't a whole lot to trust if you're one of those minorities.

There is also ZERO EVIDENCE Obama knew about his pastor's more outrageous statements. What is clear is McCain sought out the endorsements of Hagee, Parsley, Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell. We know what Hagee and Parsley have said. Falwell and Robertson had both claimed that 911 was God's punishment of America. No better or worse than Wright. Yet they get a free pass?
