Every bit helps, I have noticed more stores offering cloth re-usable bags, I am trying to personally make the switch and have a few myself, but the trick is you have to remember to bring them with you to the store in order to use them, something I haven't yet made habit. I'm working to make it a habit though, the re-usable bags don't break, hold more and can be carried more comfortably than the plastic.
